A couple of weeks after Yogurts's birthday I cut off the tip of my small finger, chopping cucumbers...(thks for the presi Christine and Stefan :-))what a shock, as you know (and especially Rita) I faint seeing blood, esp. if it is my own blood....However the finger was healing and another highlight came up as we were due to fly to Chiang Mai again. Upon our arrival it rained for 3 days and the temperature dropped to 10 degrees...Very unusal wheather in March! We took a rental car for the first three days as it was impossible to ride a bike in this heavy rainfall.
We had another look at Doi Saket, met Ralph and Roger and chilled out in the city for a while. When the clouds cleared, we rented the same white Kawasski 650 EN and did another 2000 kms, first stop was Fang we wanted to visit Tan and we were welcomed by her and her neighboours, having a Moo Gata, a sort of Korean Barbeque.

Ein paar Wochen nach Juergen's Geburi habe ich mir die Kuppe des kleinen Fingers beim Gurken Hobeln mit so einem Profi Teil (danke Zweitmann/frau) abgeschnitten. Was ein Drama, da ich ja, wie die meisten - besonders Rita - wissen, kein Blut sehen kann. Der Finger heilte und ein weiteres Highlight stand auf dem Plan, wir sind wieder nach Chiang Mai geflogen. Als wir ankamen hat es in Stroemn geregnet und die Temperatur ist auf 10 Grad gesunken, sehr unueblich fuer die Jahreszeit. Also haben wir zuerst ein Auto gemietet und uns in der Umgebung umgeschaut und in der Stadt aufgehalten. Am dritten Tag, nachdem das Wetter aufgeklart hatte, sind wir dann mit dem gelichen Toeff wie im Januar der Kawasaki 650 EN wieder mal 2000 km gefahren. erster Stop war Fang, hier hat Tan uns mit ihren Nachbarn und einem guten Gata Mu, einer Art koreanischen BBQ empfangen.

The next day we went to Mae Sai to do our 3 months visa run to Myanmar. Drive to the border, walk across the bridge and walk back again. From there we went to The Golden Triangle. The road was a pain in the neck as construction was going on and getting there was a bit of a disappointment as there is literally nothing to do unless you want to take a boat to one of the casinos in Laos. Anyhow we found a nice room and after a massage went to have dinner at a local foodstall as all the 'restaurants' close after 8 pm.
Am naechsten Tag sind wir nach Mae Sai zum dreimonatlichen Visa Run gefahren. An die Grenze fahren, ueber die Bruecke nach Burma gehen und wieder retour. Von dort sind wir dann zum Goldenen Dreieck gefahren. Die Strasse war furchtbar, da sie sich als einzige Baustelle herausstellte. So blieben wir dann ueber Nacht am Goldenen Dreieck. Es hat dort nicht viel, auch die Restaurants schliessen schon um 20.00, aber das Essen der lokalen Garkuechen war sehr ueberzeugend. Unser Zimmer war sauber und nett. Hier faehrt man nur hin, wenn man auf der gegenueberliegenden Seite des Maekhong Flusses ein Casino besuchen will.

The next day we went to Thaton via Mae Salong. Mae Salong is a mountain village, tea esp. green tea is grown there. On the way we wanted to take a look at the scenary and all of a sudden we were sourrounded bu children and women of the Lhisu tribe who tried to sell their goods. After having lunch at a lovely restaurant in Mae Salong we went down the mountain and headed to Thaton. We saw the children cleaning school mats in the river and went up to the temple with its distinctive stupa which looks even more impressive at night when illuminated.
Am naechsten Tag auf dem Weg nach Thaton haben wir erstmal in Mae Salong Halt gemacht, einem gemuetlichen Bergdorf, in dem ueberwiegend Tee angebaut wird. Auf dem Weg dorthin wollten wir nur kurz Verschnaufen und aus dem Nichts kamen Lhisu Kinder und Muetter und wollten uns ihre Waren verkaufen. Nachdem wir in einem netten Restaurant das z'Mittag eingenommen hatten ging es wieder bergab nach Thaton. Hier sahen wir dann wie die Kinder ihre Schulmatten im Fluss wuschen und so viel Spass dabei hatten und anschliessend sind wir noch zum Tempel mit seiner einzuigartigen Stupa hochgefahren, die nachts noch beeindruckender aussieht, wenn sie erleuchtet ist.

From Thaton we drove along a nice road to Phrae and from there to Maerim, where we have spent the last three nights. Exploring the surroundings of Chiang Mai, such as Doi Saket and especially looking for houses as we have made up our mind - we want to make a move - NORTH!
Von Thaton sind wir dann auf einer sehr schoenen Strasse Richtung Maerim gefahren, hier haben wir dann auch die letzten Naechte verbracht und uns die Umgebung um Chiang Mai, insbesondere Doi Saket angeschaut denn wir haben uns entschieden, wir zuegeln gen Norden!
