Good-Bye Thailand - Hello Europe - leaving from Suvarnabhumi Airport

On May 19th we left for Crete - Greece here we come....Got a nice up-grade on the car and from then on `wind in our hair and sun on our faces. -athispointof time we didnot know we wereabut todrive 3000 km the next couple of days.....

Am 19. Mai ging es nach Kreta. nach dem tollen up-grade des Leihwagens hiess es - Wind in den Haaren und Sonne im Gesicht. Noch wussten wir nicht, dass wir in den naechsten16 tagen 3000 km fahren wuerden.

Nach 20 Jahren war ich hier wieder zum ersten Mal und es ist immer noch super schoen. Hat sich eher positiv veraendert-wie vieles auf Kreta

The next day we explored the surroundings and went as far as Agia Galini in the South West of the island... As Crete has many mountain ranges, it takes ages to get from one place to the next and curve after curve after curve after....Great views lovely scenery most times the only traffic were the goats along the way...

Den ersten Halt machten wir in Lentas suedlich von Iraklion am lybischen Meer, hier ist es auch nach 20 Jahren noch super schoen und ruhig.

Von hier unternahmen wir dann Ausfluege bis hin nach Agia Galini im Suedwesten der Insel.

Agios Galini - once a small fishing village has now developed ino a tourist hot spot. However, still nice with its many tavernas during low season.

Leaving Lendas after two days, heading to Xerokampos....This tiny little village in the far East has not changed much either. We loved it so much at Lithos Guesthouse with our hosts Eleni and Costas that we stayed for 5 days....

Von Lendas in den Osten gefahren nach Xerokampos. Auch dieser kleine Ort hat sich relativ wenig veraendert. Wunderbar uebernachtet bei Ele´ni und Kostas im Litho Guest House

Going down to Kato Zakros - an ancient Minoan Palace once stood here you can still see the ruins. The beach is lined by tavernas and still has a very laid back atmosphere.
Auf der Fahrt nach Kato Zakros...einer alten Minoischen Siedlung, von der noch die Ruinen sichtbar sind. Der Strand ist von Tavernen gesaeumt und hat eine schoene relaxte Atmosphaere

Heading West - along the South Coast and up towards Rhetymnion and further along the North to Kissamos - here we called it a day and spent a nice afternoon and eve in Kissamos...
Auf in den Westen - entlang der Suedkueste, hoch nach Norden ueber Rhetymnion nach Kissamos im Westen der Insel. Hier verbrachten wir einen schoenen NAchmittag und Abend

We were the only guests at this hotel...

The following morning we went towards Elafonisi, South West... As we found the beach there far to touristy we headed eastwards again and spent the night in Paleochora.

Am folgenden Morgen sind wir weiter gen Suedwesten nach Elafonisi, hier fanden wir es viel zu touristische und sind erstmal wieder westliech gefahren, bis wir eine Unterkunf tin Paleochora fanden.

Off to Rhethymnio the following day., we spent the night in this 400 year old Venetian Palazzo.... Great. Had a nice time out in the city...

Am naechsten TAg sind wir von Rhetimnon in die Lassithi Hocheben gefahren. Frueher war dieses Hochtal von Windmuehlen uebersaet, heutzutage sind diese von Wasserpumpen ersetzt worden und so sind wir dann aus der unspektakulaeren Kulisse Richtung Sueden, Eine, in der Landkarte, als unbefestigte Strasse entpuppte sich als neu geteerte, wenn auch steiel Bergstarsse und fuehrte uns so direklt in den Sueden nach Xertokampos...

The next day we went all the way to the East again and explored the Plateau of LAithi - nothing to write home about as all the windmills that have been there 20 years ago have been replaced by modern waterpumps...

We then followed a very small road towards the South of the island, it was actually marked as unpaved in the map.... however we were lucky and the steep untouched newly paved road was ours... just until we reached the village of Xeratokampos on the South West Coast of the island-

We stayed at the beautiful appartment of Palatos with a stunning view- Manolis and Sfachos have been great hosts

Thanks Manolis for the rose you gave to me - and the raki you made us drink at 10 am!!!! Danke Manolis fuer die Rose, die du mir mit auf den Weg gabst... und auch merci fuer den Ralki, den wir Frueh um 10 tranken....

We then decided to spend two more nights in Lentas, just to chill....

Wir verbrachten noch ein,al 2 Tage in Lentas, um ein wenig auszuspannen. SChoen wars tolle einsame Bucht und Besuch in Dyktis...

We spent the last three night at a wonderful studio in Kalamakis and explored several beaches from there...

Die letzten drei NAechte verbrachten wir in Kalamakis in einen serh schoenen Studio und haben von dort aus sehr schoene Straende erkundet.

For the last two days the weather was not too bright - anyhow we explored more of the surroundings.

Obwohl das Wetter nciht merh so der Hit war, hben wira cuh die letzen 2 Tage ncoh alle sin der Umgebungn erkundet-

Unser letzter Tag in Heraklion vorm Heimflug...

Back again...The soccer match Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. FC Augsburg came up and we watched it together with Biggi and Reini in the garden, good fun ,especially because Augsburg won! Wieder daheim - Zunaechst stand dass Fussballspiel Borussia gegen Augsburg an - Augsburg hat gewonnen :-)

Visa Run to Mae Sai in March - spent the night in Chiang Saen at Gin´s Mekhong View Resort and Spa. Nice spot, however the mattresses were so wobbly, Yogurt had to order a massage mat to be able to sleep....
Visa run war im Maerz auch wieder faellig, diesmal mit Uebernachtung in Gin´s Mekhong View Resort and Spa in Chiang Saen. Die Matratzen waren so weich und wabbelig, dass Juergen sich eine Massage Matratze auf den Boden legen liess - hier konnte er seinen Ruecken ausstrecken...

Buckle up - it´s the law....well, the driver gets find when not wearing a safety belt...:-) This is Thailand - TIT!

We found North Thailand´s one and only racetrack close to Chiang Rai - just made for small bikes and mopeds.

And yet another sponataneous BBQ Harin arrived with tons of wonderful seafood - crabs, king prawns, oysters... you name, it Mannie an Maem our German neighbours joined in. Khop Khun Mak Kah, OY!
Und schon wieder ein spontanes BBQ, diesmal hat Harin gefühlte Tonnen an Seafood mitgebracht, was zusammen mit Mannie und Maen unseren deutschenNachbarn verarbeiet wurde.... SOOOOO Fein!

I did several cycling tours with Reini - however my thigh has not fully recovered so we did do rather short trips not eceeding 40K...
Meine Verletzung am Oberschenkel heilt sehr langsam, trotzdem waren ein paar schoene Velo Touren mit Reini drin, haben uns auf kürzere Strecekn von ca 40 km beschraenkt - FKK!

An evening out with Harin - we created a nice Yum Thalay wy daeng :-) which means red wine seafood salad :-) Easy to do just spill your wine!
Ein Abend mit Harin im LArbGai Baan Hong Restaurant - hier haben wir einen yam Thalay wy daeng kreeiert - heisst übersetzt Seafood Salad mit Rotwein....gaaanz einfach Rotweinglas umschuetten...
