On June 12th we flew to Vancouver, Cananda. Initially Michael and Nayika with Ryan wanted to pick us up there with Ming - however plans changed and Yogurt and I spent two nights in Vancouver before we went to Anacortes, WA. USA with Michael who picked us up...
Am 12 Juni flogen wir nach Vancouver, Kanada. Eigentlich wolltne wir von hier aus direkt los fliegen, aber die Pläne änderten sich und Michael holte uns nach 2 Tagen Vancouver ab und wir fuhren nach Anacortes, WA USA, wo wir an Bord gingen.
Chaos in Vancouver am Flughaen, Touristen, die auf Kreuzfahrtschiffe transportiert wurden ,haben den Taxi Stand geentert.
Havoc at Vancouver Airport - Tourists that wanted to board cruiseships all landed at the same time.. queuing up for a taxi took forever...
Even though jetlagged and not really happy with our hotel , we went to Granville Island and loved it
Immer noch jetleg haben wir es trotzdem nach Granville Island geschafft und hervorragene Muscheln mit Fettucine gegessen und die Aussicht sowie das Ambiente genossen
The next day - stroll through downtown Vancouver - shocked by so many homeless people and drug addicts living on the streets.
Am nächsten Tag Sightseeing n Vancouver, leider war das Wetter nicht unbedint auf unserer Seite. Trotzdem schön, Wir waren schockiert von den vielen Obdachlosen und Drogenabhängigen in den Strassen
We found out our adaptors would not work, so we were trying to find a new one. We asked at the tourist information and the lady there was just great, she accompanied me so I would not get lost... The friendly Chinese behind the counter at the little camera shop had it all.
Als wir feststellten, das unsere Adapter nicht funktionierten, haben wir uns auf die Suche nach einem entsprechenden Shop gemacht, nichts gefunden. SChlussendlich bei der Touristen Info gefragt, und die Dame war so nett, und hat uns begleitet, damit wir nicht verloren gehen . Und prompt, der freundliche Chinese hinter dem Tresen hatte genau das, was wir brauchten

Die grossen Fähren, die zwischen Kanada und den Staaten pendeln waren irgendwie ständig im Weg :-)
Roche Harbor, a sheltered harbour on St. Juan island was once well known for the shipment of limestones. Tons and tons were exported to other parts of the US.
Roche Harbor, auf San Juan ist ein ruhiger Hafen mit viel Geschichte. In den 1850er Jahren wurde auf der Insel Karststein abgebaut und verschifft.

A hike across Stuart´s island - 4 miles one way to get to the old light house, the border to Canada....
The island is uninhabited and open to sailors and kayaks and campers...however it cannot be reached with Public ferries...

Nach einer Woche brachen wir zu unserer Landtour auf, währen Michael Nayika und Ryan schon mal die Scheune vorsortierten... 1 Woche 5000 km... Anacortes Winthruo, Liberty Lake, Kallispell, Glacier Ntl Park, Ennis, Montana, Phillipsburg - spokane. Leavenworth back to Anacortes via Whitby Island.

The Grand Collee Dam is one of the most renowed Dams of the States. Built in 1941 it was the biggest dam in the world at that time.

We then continued our journey and went to Flathead Lake - spending the night in Kallispell.
Dann ging es weiter nach Kallispell, am Fusse des Flathead Lakes.
Und von dort dann weiter in den Glacier National Park....und was für ein Unterschied, nicht nur war der Highway to the Sun noch gesperrt, auch die Gletscher, die mich bei meinem Aufenthalt vor ca. 20 Jahren wo fasziniert haben, sind fast verschwunden...
We continued our journey to Glacier National Park- the actual attraction - Route to the Rising Sun was closed as there eas a risk of avalanches - so we just took a quick look around and went on...So sad to see that many of the glaciers that have impressed me some 20 years ago have vanished.
We decided to continue our journey to Yellow Stone National Park...so we had to spend the night somewhere . we ended up in Ennis Montana just to find out there is no place to spend the night as all of the 5 motels were sold out that weekend!
A nice couple that runs the local RV park let us use an empty space for free...
Wir haben uns entschieden zum Yellowstone National Psrk weiter zu fahren. Bei der Übernachtung sind wir alledings gecsheitert und nichts mehrgefunden. Wir haben dann in ennis Montana einen Campingplatz für Wohnmobile gefunden, der uns dann die Nacht auf einem der freien Plätze angeboten hat - und das sogar gratis !

Heading back we spend the at Georgetown Lake, Montana. Phyllipsburg, which is close by was proud of its foundation 150 years ago. Lovely small town.
Auf dem Rückweg übernachteten wir am Georgetown Lake, Montana. Das kleine Städtchen Phyllipsburg in der Nähe hatte gerade sein 150 jähriges Gründungsfest. Herzige kleine Stadt.

The next morning we went into Phyllipsburg again and visited the world famous candy shop The Sweet Palace.
Am nächsten Morgen besuchten wir den weltbekannten Süssigkeiten Laden The Sweet Palace in Phyllipsburg.
We went around the lake through eneven pathways and crossed Skalkaho Pass to Hamilton, from shere we went back to Dann ging es rund um den See unbefestigt und anschliessend über den Skalkaho Pass nach Hamilton und auf dem Higheay wieder zurück nach Liberty Lake.

Skalkaho Pass ist 2200 Meter hoch und wurde 1924 gebaut, um die Saphire
Mountains zu erschliessen. Auch heute noch ist die Strasse weitesgehend
unbefestigt.

Leavenworth, WA has once been an important railway city in the West. After the station was closed the city was about to become a ghost town. In the 1960s its inhabitants had the idea to turn it into a tourist attraction and now it has become a Bavarian Alp City in the West of America.
Leavenworth, einst eine wichtige Eisenbahnstadt drohte nach der Schliessung des Bahnhofs zur Geisterstadt zu werden. Die beherzten Einwohner machten in den 1960er Jahren einen Touristenort daraus. Ein bayerisches Alpenstädtchen im Amerikanischen Westen.

On our way back to Anacortes we took the ferry to Whitby island and crossed
Deception Pass Bridge to Fidalgo Island.

The next day we started to get the container packed....40ft. Everything had to be cleaned well in advance. Fruit crates are frobidden as well as any traces of grass and dust.
After the container left we wnt back to sailing....

As it took us only 1.5 hrs to Vancouver, we had plenty of time and explored Granville Island again and did a Cruise on the False Creek.
Thank you soooo very much Captain and Nayika for making all this happen!!!! It was a trip of a lifetime! Hope we make the South Pacific, too! Hawaii is waiting :-)
