Research Mae Sai - Chiang Saen - Chiang Kham - Phayao February 2018

February 4th Yogurt´s Birthday - off we went for our Visa Run and combined it with some research in the North.....We made it to the border in 2.5 hrs all went well at the border and then we continued to Chiang Saen where we spend the night.

Market at Mae Sai - Border Town

Bridge to Myanmar
This funny building at the entrance to the village turned out to be a Motel.

Exploring Chiang Saen: The town was built in 1323 and was part of the Lanna Kingdom at that time. After it has been destroyed by the Burmese in the 1760s people were deported to other parts of the country and the region was scarcely inhabited. In 1801 people gradually returned and used the fertile Mekong Delta for agricultural purposes and the city was re-erected.
Today the ruins of the 14th century are spred all over the city and the old wall is still partly existing.
An interesting stroll through Thailand´s history.

Chiang Saen Golden Land - our hut for the night.

Chiang Saen Golden Land - ein wenig abperltes Resort -

The next morning I took one of the old bikes at the resort and toured the ruins again - it was not really the best idea for my leg....but fun

Am morgen habe ich ein Velo aus dem Resort genommen und bin ein bisschen den Maekhong entlang geradelt... nicht so gut für mein Bain aber Spass hats gemacht

On the way to Chiang Khong there was this funny light coming up on the dashboard... so we checked at Toyota - The diesel filter needed to be changed no big deal and not many people at the garage-- so we continued to Chiang Kham

Grand Villa Chiang Kham

Our fav restaurant in Chiang Kham..

Phayao - another day of research

 City Pillar Shrine of Phayao
On our way to Wat Tilokaram a little shrine on the lake - accompanied by a nice Thai couple that lives in Prague.
